Police arrested two 13-year-old boys for murdering Lenny Rodriguez, an eighth grader at Ralston Middle School in Omaha, Nebraska, on Sept. 28.

Omaha Police officers found Rodriguez, 13, by Hanscom Park at 11:51 p.m. after a caller reported hearing gunshots near 29thand Shirley streets, KETV NewsWatch 7 reported. Rodriguez died at a hospital after paramedics attempted CPR on the way there. The first boy faces first-degree murder charges, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and tampering with evidence, KETV reported. The second boy also faces charges of first-degree murder, use of a gun to commit a felony, tampering with evidence, and possession of a stolen firearm. The first boy has previously been detained at the Douglas County Youth Correctional Facility for robbery, using a gun, and auto theft, police said.

Because the case is still in the investigative stages, the motive is speculative, police told The Daily Caller. That information will be released during the two suspects’ homicide trials.

If guilty, the boys could face an out-of-home placement, probation or be sent to the Kearney Youth Rehab Center until the age of 19, at the latest, KETV reported.

Rodriguez’ family laid 13 candles at the scene to symbolize the 13 years of his life, KETV reported.
