A registered sex offender is behind bars after trespassing at a Connecticut elementary school Tuesday, according to reports.

Police arrested Alexander Robles on a charge of second-degree criminal trespassing after he entered Sarah Rawson Elementary School apparently in search of a bathroom, NBC Connecticut reported.

Robles, 48, served time for sexual assault from 1996 to 1999, according to NBC Connecticut. He faced three sexual assault charges in 2002, the outlet reported. Earlier in 2022, Robles also faced charges of criminal trespassing but did not appear in court, according to NBC Connecticut.

Robles initially asked to use the restroom but was not allowed into the building, WSFB reported, citing a statement released by Hartford Public Schools.

“The individual went around the building and entered through a door near the loading dock that was temporarily unlocked by cafeteria staff awaiting a delivery. The individual entered a staff-only restroom in the kitchen area near the door. Staff then called security, who escorted the individual off the premises,” the statement continued, according to WSFB.

“Knowing that he simply just walked in a side door, everyone just has to know that if I open something, I have to close it right behind me,” Shameeka Williams, the aunt of a student at the elementary school, told NBC Connecticut.

Hartford parent Alanna Johnson told WSFB she believes parents “deserve to know our children are safe and protected while they are in school. They shouldn’t have to worry that a sex offender is getting into the school.” (RELATED: High School Teacher Who Allegedly Solicited Nude Photos From Child Online Died By Suicide After Arrest)

Robles did not enter into any areas occupied by students, NBC Connecticut reported. School was in session when the alleged incident took place. Police brought Robles away from school property and proceeded to arrest him, according to the outlet.
