A detransitioner is suing the social worker, therapist, and the clinics where they work in Oregon for speeding up the date of her double mastectomy surgery.
Camille Kiefel regretted the surgery she had in August 2020, calling it an “abhorrent misdiagnosis,” The Daily Wire reported. The 32-year-old said that health professionals approved the double mastectomy surgery after two short Zoom meetings—one 40 minutes, the other an hour. Kiefel is suing social worker Amy Ruff, mental health therapist Mara Burmeister, and their gender clinics in Oregon—Brave Space Oregon and the Quest Center for Integrative Health, The Daily Wire reported. Based on these two Zoom meetings with Ruff and Burmeister, they recommended she receive a double mastectomy surgery.
“At the time I believed I was nonbinary,” she testified at the Florida Boards of Medicine’s hearing. “I struggled with severe mental illness and suicidal ideation.”
“I had a trauma history: when I was in sixth grade my best friend had been raped by her brother,” she added. “Being a girl meant I was more vulnerable, so I started to present as more masculine. This should have been a red flag, yet within months of requesting top surgery, it was performed on me.”
“I just don’t want what happened to me to happen to someone else,” she said, according to The Daily Wire.
