A California man was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting a fast food employee last month, causing her to lose an eye.
Bianca Palomera, 19, was allegedly punched multiple times in the face by Isaac White-Carter, 20, after she stepped in to protect her co-worker’s brother, a special needs teen, from verbal assaults, according to NBC News.
Surveillance video of the assault shows the suspect getting “into the worker’s face” before striking her. Palomera fought back only to get punched multiple times, NBC Bay Area reported. Palomera was hit at least one time in the right eye, which was damaged so badly, doctors removed it, the outlet reported. After working “tirelessly” to identify the suspect in the attack, police arrested White-Carter on felony charges of mayhem and aggravated assault, according to a statement made via Facebook by the Antioch Police Department. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office will be prosecuting the case, according to the statement.
The Antioch Police also expressed their gratitude towards Palomera for “helping a community member in need.”
Though she lost an eye, Palomera doesn’t regret doing her part to help someone in need.
“This is probably the last thing that I would’ve expected out of anything, but I don’t fully regret, you know, helping, stepping in,” she said according to NBC News. “It could’ve been worse for my coworker’s brother.”
