PepsiCo Laying Off Hundreds Of Employees

PepsiCo Inc. announced Monday it’s laying off hundreds of employees at the North American snacks and beverage divisions’ headquarters, showing that dismissals are reaching beyond Big Tech.

Hundreds of jobs will be eliminated at the company’s North American beverage business, in Purchase, N.Y., and its North American snacks and packaged-foods business in Chicago and Plano, according to sources per the The Wall Street Journal reported.(RELATED: NPR Freezes Hiring, Cuts Budget After Sharp Drop In Sponsorship Revenue)

Headquarters-based workers will be working from home through Wednesday while the company makes the job cuts, according to a memo obtained by Fox Business correspondent Charlie Gasparino.

PepsiCo told employees that the layoffs were meant “to simplify the organization so we can operate more efficiently.”

“After navigating the pandemic and now facing a variety of headwinds and accelerated pace of change sweeping our industry, we recognize that further simplification and modernization of our business is essential to driving the overall health of PepsiCo,” the memo states. The memo was sent by kirk Tanner, CE of PepsiCo Beverages North America, and Andrea Ferrara, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer for PepsiCo Beverages North America.

As of Dec. 25 last year, PepsiCo employed about 309,000 people worldwide, including about 129,000 people in the U.S., according to The Wall Street Journal. The Fortune 50 company makes Doritos, Lays potato chips, and Quaker Oats.
