This is yet another reason why Americans should love soccer.

Spain and Morocco faced off in a FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match on Dec. 6, with the game being a grueling contest between the two sides. After a full 90 minutes with a scoreless 0-0 tie, the game went into extra time with the same result, which sent them into penalty kicks. Spain would miss all three of their attempts, while Morocco hit three out of four shots to ultimately win the game and send them into the quarter-finals.

It was a massive upset, with Morocco having the No. 22 spot in the FIFA men’s world rankings, compared to Spain’s No. 7.

In fact, it was such a huge upset and meant so much to the people of Morocco that this reporter completely broke the sports journalism code of “don’t cheer in the press box,” and as a journalist myself, I don’t blame him at all. Look at this happiness, look at this emotion, how could you not understand the magnitude of what that win meant to him with it being his home nation upsetting a powerhouse to advance in the World Cup?

All is forgiven from my angle.

As a fan of soccer, I completely understand the passion, and with it being the World Cup, I understand it even more. This is yet another reason that I tell Americans to get into soccer, it can make you feel some magical things.

Don’t get me wrong, we get that magic from our sports of football, basketball and baseball, but all I’m saying is, add even more magic. The magic from soccer is so uniquely intense, and I’d hate for anybody to miss out. Plus, if we as a country got invested, we could easily dominate the sport — the most popular in the world — and the United States could achieve World Cup glory. Wouldn’t that be grand?

Just look at how happy the win made that guy.

What a beautiful game.
