Outside linebacker Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills will miss the remainder of the 2022-2023 NFL season due to an injury.

The former Super Bowl MVP injured his right knee on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions and needed to be carted off the field. Initially, there was hope that Miller would avoid a major knee injury. Exploratory surgery performed on Tuesday showed that his ACL was in fact torn, marking the end of his season, according to Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott.

Miller posted a video to his Twitter account on Wednesday while lying in a hospital bed, seemingly in great spirits.

“Mentally I couldn’t be in a better spot man, and I think that is the majority of it man.” Miller said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to show my teammates how tough I am, you know, how hard I work, and how important that this means to me.”

This is the second time in Miller’s career that he’s torn the same ACL, according to National Insider for NFL Network Ian Rapoport. The first time that he tore it was back in 2013, when he was a member of the Denver Broncos.

ACL injuries are usually detrimental to an athlete’s career. They are dreadful injuries that take months on end to recover from. And once a player heals from the injury, they aren’t as explosive as they once were. With that said, there must be an exception for Von Miller, considering how much of a physical specimen that he is. I would be shocked if this injury knocked him out of his prime after seeing how high his spirits were post-surgery, I can only envision him coming back stronger than ever and still being an impactful player for the Bills. Miller is Herculean. I’m sure he’ll figure out a way to get back to 100% or at least very close to it.

This is a major blow to the Buffalo Bills and their hopes at winning the Super Bowl this season, but with Josh Allen as their quarterback, I’m sure they still have a shot at going all the way.
