Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips was penalized on a roughing the passer call Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, and it may be one of the worst calls of all-time.

Phillips’ sack on Justin Herbert would have made it fourth down for the Chargers, instead it gave L.A. a fresh set of downs.

In my opinion, this is a textbook sack. I’m not sure how referees want players to start tackling if this is what they’re beginning to get flagged for.

I’m not sure what else Phillips could have done differently to avoid a penalty here. It was a clean tackle, and it was indicative of the referees just being way too involved with the game. This is not a good call at all. NFL referees are softening up the game too much. All the refs needed to do is look at the replay monitor once to see that this flag was a mistake.

Is this how the NFL wants their defensive players to start tackling? Seems like it to me!

This call was as soft as Charmin — one of the worst I have ever seen.
