Denver Broncos quarterback (QB) Russell Wilson was sidelined after suffering a concussion during Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson, who has struggled mightily all season long, was carving out one of his best performances of 2022 before he got hurt on a tackle near the end zone.

Broncos’ backup quarterback Brett Rypien entered in relief of Wilson, but he could not rally the Broncos to victory. Denver went on to lose 34-28, and the team is now 3-10 on the season.

The discombobulated look on Wilson’s face while he was down on the ground was scary. Being how Wilson is a married man with children, I can imagine this was difficult for his family to see. It makes me wonder if early retirement would be a valuable option for him heading forward.

Over the offseason, the Broncos signed Wilson to a five-year, $245 million contract with $165 million guaranteed, according to the NFL’s official website. But the quarterback the Broncos thought they were getting is not the player they received. (RELATED: NFL Hands Out Two Huge Fines To Teams Accused Of Faking Injuries)

The Broncos are currently ranked dead-last in the NFL, with 14.9 points per game and Wilson leading the way, according to ESPN. Along with that, Pro Football Reference shows Wilson is posting career lows in passing yards, touchdown passes, completion percentage and in quarterback rating (QBR). Wilson’s first season with Denver has been a nightmare and now, it’s gotten worse.

To save face, I think retirement would suit Wilson well. I’d hate for a talented player like himself to tarnish his reputation on the back end of his otherwise great career. Wilson deserves to be remembered as the solid quarterback he once was when he played for the Seattle Seahawks, and not this washed-up imposter of a QB he is now.

It will be interesting to see how things go for him moving forward, but after enduring this terrifying tackle, I think hanging up the cleats would do him well. And besides, with all the guaranteed money Wilson signed off on, he’ll never have to work another day in his life.

Regardless of the criticism Wilson has received for playing poorly in the 2022-23 season, you never want to see a human laying there hurt like that. Hopefully, he finds a way to feel better.
