Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert officially won her reelection bid against Democrat Adam Frisch, following a weeks-long recount.

Boebert, a member of the Freedom Caucus, ultimately defeated Frisch by 551 votes, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced Monday night. Frisch did not contest the recount, telling supporters in November that the likelihood of him winning was “very, very small.” Colorado state law mandates a recount if the margin of an election is less than 0.5%. “The mandatory recount for U.S. Congressional District 3 and permissive recount of House District 43 are complete and have confirmed the results of the races. Colorado’s elections are safe, secure, and accurate,” Griswold said in a statement. “I commend the election workers from across the state and my office for conducting these recounts and for their continued work to make Colorado the best place to cast a ballot.”

The recount found a four vote swing in the district. Boebert ultimately won by 546 votes.

Griswold’s certification confirms that Republicans will hold a 222-212 advantage at the beginning of the 118th Congress. The GOP’s majority will likely shrink once Virginia holds a special election to replace Democratic Virginia Rep. Donald McEachin, who died on Nov. 28. Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that the special election will be held on Feb. 21, 2023.

Running in a district that leans seven points towards the GOP, Boebert’s performance was one of the biggest surprises of the 2022 midterms. Frisch ran as a conservative Democrat, pledging to oppose a Nancy Pelosi speakership and campaigning primarily on local issues. He also accused Boebert of spending too much time on television and not enough focusing on the needs of the district.

“I’m so thrilled the Republicans will now hold the gavel in the people’s House, and I’m thrilled to be representing you in that majority. Since the day I announced I was running for Congress, this has been about doing everything I can to help get our country back on track and put a hard stop to the far left’s move towards socialism,” Boebert said in a video posted to Twitter on Sunday.
