CNN’s Don Lemon broke down in tears Monday while reporting on the death of his colleague and fellow journalist, Drew Griffin.

Griffin passed away Saturday at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.

Lemon became emotional while reporting on Griffin’s death.

“We have some very sad news to tell you today. Our colleague and friend and long-time distinguished CNN journalist, Drew Griffin, has passed away. Drew was with the investigative unit of CNN, based in Atlanta since 2004,” Lemon said. “In 2015, Drew earned a Peabody award for his probe into delays at Veterans Affairs hospitals. He won three national Emmys for his reporting, exposing corporate and congressional corruption.”

“Prior to joining CNN, he was an investigative reporter at CBS in Los Angeles for 10 years, and we honor — we’re going to honor him a little bit later on this hour. I’m sorry,” he continued.

Lemon then began to cry, while co-host and former Daily Caller reporter Kaitlan Collins consoled him. (RELATED: Trump Supporter Says CNN Reporter ‘Ambushed’ Her In Interview About Russian Troll Group)

“I know this is tough for you,” Collins said. “You said he was one of the first people you met at CNN.”

Lemon continued to cry, removing his glasses and wiping his eyes.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

“Drew was such a gifted storyteller,” Collins added.

Griffin leaves behind his wife, three children and two grandchildren, according to CNN.
