Professional golfer John Daly Sr. did not hit any range balls, chips or putts Sunday in preparation for the PNC Championship round.

Daly, throwing away a cigarette and pouring Diet Coke into a to-go cup, played with his son, John Daly Jr., a sophomore at the University of Arkansas, Golf Digest reported. Daly Jr. had expected his father to do at least a brief warmup.

“They have a range here?” Daly Sr. asked his son jokingly.

“It doesn’t take me long to get warmed up these days,” he added. “I’m ready to go, baby.”

The Daly father-son team, the defending champions, tied for second behind Vijay and Qass Sing. The Dalys birdied several of their first nine holes for a front-nine 29, then made birdies on their first four holes on the back. They closed out with a 59 — 24 strokes under par. Golf Digest noted that the elder Daly is due for knee surgery and that his knee problems are affecting his swing.
