Jeremy Renner is lucky to be alive after a heroic neighbor put a tourniquet on his leg to help stop the bleeding following a tragic snowplow accident on Sunday.

The actor was reportedly using a plowing machine called a ‘Snowcat’ at the time of the incident. The machine accidentally ran over one of his legs, causing Renner to lose a lot of blood at the scene. His neighbor, who is a doctor, is being credited for quickly rushing to his aid and potentially saving his life, according to TMZ. The neighbor tended to his injury until first responders and a helicopter arrived to airlift the actor to the hospital.

A new video emerged showing the helicopter taking off at roughly 9:50 a.m. Eyewitnesses report that Renner was plowing the road a quarter mile from his Tahoe, California, residence so his family could make their way out after a heavy New Year’s Eve snowfall when the accident occurred, according to TMZ. Sources close to the situation said police surrounded the area and reportedly impounded the Snowcat at approximately 8:00 p.m., according to TMZ. The machine apparently comes equipped with extensive safety features that were supposed to prevent such accidents, the outlet noted. An investigation into the accident has since been launched.

The actor remains in “critical but stable condition” at this time. Renner’s injuries were described as “extensive,” and reports indicate other parts of his body may also have been injured, according to TMZ.
