Former UFC star Phil Baroni, 46, was arrested after he allegedly beat and killed his girlfriend in Mexico over New Year’s weekend, according to TMZ.

Police found Baroni’s girlfriend naked and unconscious in bed, TMZ reported, citing Mexican news outlet Tribuna De La Bahia. She allegedly had a sheet covering her face and bruises and markings all over her face and body. The outlet and some Twitter users shared images reportedly showing Baroni’s hands, which appeared red.

Baroni tracked down the police and told them he got into a drunken altercation with his girlfriend after learning she’d allegedly slept with another man, TMZ reported. The altercation ostensibly turned physical, with Baroni claiming he grabbed his girlfriend by her arms and put her in the shower in their room, where she hit her head, according to the outlet.

Baroni also said his girlfriend was unable to get out of the tub by herself, so he helped her out, TMZ reported. She then allegedly claimed to be cold, so Baroni put her in the bed in their room, where she asked him to go out and get cigarettes and beer, according to the outlet. When he returned to the room, Baroni allegedly told authorities he believed his girlfriend was asleep. Authorities are conducting an autopsy on his girlfriend to determine her cause of death, according to the outlet.
