Prince Harry accused Prince William of physically attacking him and leaving him with visible injuries during a 2019 argument at his London home, according to an excerpt from his memoir, titled “Spare.”

In the book, Harry alleges that the argument was about his relationship with Meghan Markle, according to The Guardian, which claims to have obtained a copy of the unreleased memoir. Harry reportedly writes that William called Meghan “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive,” and then lunged toward him. He describes the attack by saying William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace” and then “knocked me to the floor,” according to The Guardian.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me,” Harry claims in his book, according to The Guardian. “I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

Harry writes that William was not being rational and that he told his brother he was repeating a hostile media narrative about Markle, the Guardian reported. William then reportedly shouted back to Harry that he was just trying to help him, per the outlet’s account of Harry’s memoir.

“Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?” Harry claims to have said, according to The Guardian. (RELATED:  ‘Never Needed To Be This Way’: Prince Harry Speaks In Advance Of Memoir Release)

The memoir then recounts how William allegedly urged Harry to hit him back — which Harry refused to do — and later apologized and asked Harry not to tell Meghan about the incident, the outlet reported. Harry writes that he complied and spoke to his therapist about the altercation, but that Markle eventually found out after discovering numerous “scrapes and bruises” on Harry’s back, according to The Guardian.

“Spare” is set for release on Jan. 10.
