Former television personality and professional skateboarder Bam Margera described his near-death experience Jan. 5 during Steve-O’s “Wild Ride” podcast.
Margera is lucky to be alive after suffering a medical crisis in December.
“I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis’ birthday, December 8th,” he said to Steve-O. The reality television star went on to describe the series of events that led to his near-fatal experience.
“Did not know that I had like gnarly COVID, my body was shutting down, and I went into four seizures, each one lasting 10 to 20 minutes,” Margera said.
Margera said his health quickly deteriorated and that he was unaware of the dire situation that was unfolding.
“And on the fourth one I bit my tongue so hard it was like nearly falling off, ” Margera said, as he described his seizures. “It got so swollen and puffy it wouldn’t fit in my mouth, and I was drinking the infected blood which gave me pneumonia as well.”
Margera said he required a breathing tube after his fifth seizure.
He remained in critical condition for nearly a week, but had no recollection of the experience when he came-to. Margera said that at one point doctors attempted to remove his breathing tube but he wasn’t breathing on his own and it had to be reinserted. “So I woke up five days later thinking I was there for a couple hours,” Margera said.
“I spent 8 days in there. Dude, when they took that tube out it felt like I sucked on Darth Vader’s dick!” Margera said to Steve-O. “I would sip on tea and fucking lozenges, all the live-long day!”
