Yep … It’s time for the Angelos family to sell the team.

Baltimore Orioles CEO John Angelos and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott held a press conference Martin Luther King Jr. Day to announce the franchise is donating $5 million to CollegeBound, a scholarship organization that helps students in Baltimore City Public Schools.

After the announcement, reporters had the (very, very rare) opportunity to ask Angelos questions, and what’s any reporter going to ask amid legal issues with the Angelos family and rumors the Orioles are going to leave town?

They’re going to ask questions that deal with those exact issues.

But the problem, at least according to Angelos: It was MLK Day, which apparently gave him the perfect reason to bat away any questions — and you better believe he did.

My favorite part of this whole exchange was when Angelos thought he was going to school the reporter with some pseudo-intellectual lecture about morality and whatever else, just for the reporter to immediately fire back.

Angelos really did think he was spittin’ though.

Man, this whole situation reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad (who is a huge O’s fan) would go on rants about how Peter Angelos (John’s father and the majority owner), needed to sell the Baltimore Orioles. Fast forward to 2023, and nothing much has changed. As a matter of fact, it’s worse now that I know about this other Angelos.

And I love how John Angelos brought up these “flashy” minor league numbers, like Orioles fans are supposed to be proud of that or something. The Angelos family has owned the O’s since 1993 — that’s 30 years with zero World Series titles, zero American League pennants and only five playoff appearances. Oh, but as long as Baltimore fans can brag about having hot prospects that the team will just eventually trade away because they’re cheap as hell, it’s all good — and that actually seems to be John Angelos’ mindset here.

The cheek of this guy, though. He schedules a press conference on MLK Day (only the second time he’s spoken with reporters in four years), just to use MLK Day to avoid any questions he didn’t want to answer. He had to have known the media was going to hound him about the status of the ball club with everything going on. This all seemed so extremely calculated. What a slimy bastard.

The Angelos family seriously needs to sell the team — it’s long overdue at this point.
