White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dodged a slew of questions from Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy about the classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware.
Doocy, along with several reporters in the briefing room, asked repeated questions about the classified documents found at the president’s home and in an office at the Penn Biden Center. The press secretary kept referring Doocy to the White House Counsel’s Office without directly answering his questions.
“After a special counsel was named, but before the FBI searched, President Biden went to his home in Wilmington. What was he doing in there?” Doocy asked.
“I would refer you to the White House Counsel’s Office,” Jean-Pierre responded.
“So something relating to this case,” he said.
“I would refer you to the White House Counsel’s Office,” she said.
Doocy then asked if reports on the documents were “leaked” to “bruise” Biden’s chances of running for reelection and as to the reason he possessed classified materials. (RELATED: Doocy Asks Jean-Pierre Point-Blank If Biden Is Involved In A ‘Cover-Up’)
“I would refer you to the White House Counsel’s Office as they are the ones closely involved,” she said.
“More basically, we know the president did it — why did he do it?” Doocy asked, to which Jean-Pierre again referred him to the counsel’s office.
“In the president’s own words, he admits to having information that wasn’t his. Why did he smuggle it out?” Doocy asked.
“I will let the statement of the president stand for itself. I’m just not going down a rabbit hole with you on this,” she said.
The FBI discovered six additional classified documents at Biden’s Wilmington home while conducting a search of the property Friday. The president said there is “no there there” regarding the documents, indicating the documents should not be of any importance or concern to the American public.
The president’s personal lawyers found roughly 10 documents in the Penn Biden Center in November 2022 and immediately transferred the material to the Department of Justice. The counsel and the FBI discovered more documents at the president’s residence during additional searches conducted Dec. 20, Jan. 11, Jan. 12 and Jan. 20.
Attorney General Merrick Garland on Jan. 12 appointed special counsel Robert Hur to lead an investigation into whether the president mishandled the documents after the second tranche of classified materials was discovered at his home.
