The hit “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” is returning to our screens Feb. 5, and one of the show’s stars teased some serious plot lines Tuesday.

Brandon Sklenar, who portrays the dashing Spencer Dutton, in the Paramount+ series, told TVLine that “it doesn’t get any easier for anybody,” when the show returns from its mid-season break. When we left Sklenar’s character, he had just learned that his uncle Jacob Dutton (played by Harrison Ford) and brother had been shot, almost to death, and he had to return from his work hunting the wild beasts of Africa to save the Dutton-Yellowstone Ranch.

With his new British beau in tow, the mid-season trailer left viewers wondering if they ever make it back to America. Sklenar seemed to clarify these concerns in the interview. “I can say that he immediately takes action to getting home,” he told TVLine. “It doesn’t get easier for anybody, I can say that, in classic Taylor Sheridan fashion.”

Sheridan created the prequel show after the stunning success of “1883,” the first “Yellowstone” prequel. During promotional interviews, Sheridan hinted that it might be one of the most expensive television series ever created. Sklenar continued to note that, “I can say that it’s not going to be a joyous homecoming, that’s for sure. I think Spencer’s coming in hot and he’s got a lot to handle when he gets home. And it’s not going to be an easy journey to get there.” So this seems to suggest that Spencer Dutton makes it back to the ranch, which is a relief to know.
