Things just keep getting worse for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies announced Tuesday on Twitter that starting center Steven Adams will miss the next 3-5 weeks of action due to a PCL sprain in his right knee. They said his injury occurred Sunday during their loss to the Phoenix Suns.

This is a tough blow to Memphis considering how they’re already in midst of a three-game losing streak. Adams hauls in 11.5 rebounds per game, which is fourth highest average in the NBA this season.

Adams is a player who does all the intangibles well. He sets hard screens, makes good passes and defends the rim. He’s the anchor in the paint for Memphis’ defense. Though his game isn’t very flashy, he’s one of the better centers in the league. He does all the dirty work during the course of a game that doesn’t necessarily show up in the box score but matters a lot. It sucks to see Adams injured. He’s one of my favorite players in all of professional sports. You never quite know what to expect from him when he’s on the court. He’s unintentionally funny and has a friendly demeanor about him that makes it easy to root for him.

Without Adams on the floor, the Grizzlies losing streak could extend past three games and they could begin to slip in the Western Conference standings.
