A 17-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the head Jan. 18 while taking the trash out in South Fulton, Georgia, according to a local report.

South Fulton Police said a shooter hit the teen, MiQuavious, in the head with a bullet and immediately left the scene, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The teen is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The incident occurred when MiQuavious reportedly got off of his McDonald’s shift at 11 p.m. and took out the trash and a Christmas tree for his mother, Apollonia Blanchard, the outlet reported.

“Today is his sixth day at Grady. He’s in intensive care. He’s hooked up on a ventilator on life support,” Blanchard said Tuesday.

A group of men reportedly approached him and began shooting until their van departed, his mother said, according to the outlet. A GoFundMe page for the teen said that the group of shooters took issue with him utilizing their dumpster which he had done for years. (RELATED: Suspect In Monterey Park Shooting Dead By Suicide)

His mother heard the noise and found her son bleeding from the head inside of a wrecked vehicle shortly after midnight, the GoFundMe page said. She reportedly screamed for 20 minutes without any assistance until paramedics finally arrived.

Blanchard told Fox 5 that her son’s condition is slowly improving after his brain activity had temporarily stopped.

“My son is slowly progressing. He did try to cross his legs the other day … he’s a fighter,” she said.

No suspect has been identified or taken into custody in connection to the case. South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows said officials have found some good leads and have issued several search warrants.
