One person is dead and at least five people are injured after a car crashed into a building in Baltimore on Wednesday, causing it to collapse.

Rescue crews and firefighters responded to a call around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday night after a driver crashed a stolen car and forced another vehicle to crash into a vacant building in east Baltimore roughly an hour prior, according to 11 News. City police said the crash occurred after they approached a stolen vehicle, the driver of which fled, colliding with the other vehicle.

As both cars crashed into the building, part of the structure collapsed on top of them, 11 News continued. It took at least 30 minutes to pull both vehicles from the debris, and local bus routes had to be rerouted due to high police activity in the area.

Updates shared online by 11 News anchor Khiree Stewart showed at least two fire trucks and multiple firefighters and law enforcement officers surrounding the destruction. Fire crews appeared to be using the ladder of one truck to support part of the top portion of a building impacted by the crash. (RELATED: Driver Plows SUV Into Restaurant Killing Two Brothers)

The crash reportedly killed at least one pedestrian, with five other individuals injured, according to Stewart. The injured were taken to a local hospital.
