Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, and her manager reportedly planned an intervention to get help for the star after a series of concerning behavior allegedly left them worried for her safety.

A source close to Spears confirmed the fragility of her current condition, TMZ reported Thursday. “I’m afraid she’s gonna die,” the source said, according to the outlet. Spears has reportedly been struggling with mental health issues as well as substance abuse, and has been displaying erratic behavior, according to TMZ.

The alleged intervention also involved an interventionist and doctors and was meant to take place Tuesday, the outlet reported. The efforts later failed when Spears caught on to what was happening, according to TMZ.

Spears is taking meds that “hype her up,” according to close sources cited by TMZ. The sources also reportedly said the star has been “flying off the handle” more frequently and is not taking the prescribed medications meant to stabilize her.

The star’s manager rented a residence in Los Angeles in an effort to bring Spears over without raising suspicion about an intervention, according to TMZ. Asghari allegedly planned to take Spears for the visit, where doctors would be present and the discussion would center around getting targeted help for Spears, the outlet reported. Spears’ manager was allegedly planning to let Spears stay in the rental home for roughly two months, during which time she could receive medical treatment and psychological counseling, according to TMZ. Spears’ sons and father, Jamie Spears, were not involved, the outlet reported.

The alleged intervention fell apart, but Spears reportedly agreed to meet with a doctor Wednesday. The purported meeting “went well,” but no further details have been made available at the time of writing, according to TMZ.
