Former President Donald Trump’s Instagram and Facebook accounts have been officially restored after a ban of more than two years, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Caller.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, announced Jan. 25 that the former president’s accounts would be restored “in the coming weeks.” (RELATED: Facebook To Unban Trump)

Meta instituted the multi-year ban on Trump’s accounts due to posts he made after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that the company thought showed “praise for people engaged in violence.” The two-year ban was set to expire on Jan. 7, but the company took time afterwards to deliberate. Trump has yet to post on his Instagram and Facebook accounts, and is unlikely to do so due to his contract with Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the company that owns Truth Social.

According to the TMTG legal document reviewed by the Daily Caller, Trump is “generally obligated to make any social media post on TruthSocial” first, before posting “on another social media site for 6 hours.”

Trump will be subject to Meta’s rules if he chooses to use the social media platforms, and his posts and ads would be restricted if they violate the stipulations.

“We just do not want — if he is to return to our services — for him to do what he did on January 6, which is to use our services to delegitimize the 2024 election, much as he sought to discredit the 2020 election,” Meta’s president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, told Axios.

Trump’s team did not immediately respond to an inquiry from the Daily Caller.
