Daily Caller education reporter Chrissy Clark detailed the behind-the-scenes creation of the new exclusive Daily Caller documentary, “Damaged,” surrounding the stories of five de-transitioners.
During a Thursday appearance on the WMAL radio show hosted by Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese, Clark detailed the multiple causes of gender dysphoria that have been largely ignored by transgender activists and medical professionals. The documentary delves into the backgrounds of five former transgender individuals, most of whom were sexually assaulted as minors.
“You’ll noticed that it’s a pattern in the documentary, as well, we talked to five de-transitioners — four of whom experienced sexual assault as minors — so this is a very common thing to either have sexual assault occur. And then [for] a lot of them, it’s a mechanism. It’s actually a coping mechanism for girls who have been touched in places they didn’t give consent to be touched in, it’s their coping mechanism to cut off the parts that gave them anxiety and depression,” she told Coglianese.
Clark described her conversation with Dr. Joshua Safer, the director of transgender medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, who performs sex reassignment surgeries on minors.
“Sitting down with him, you never get the sense that this man is out here just to make profit or just to be evil,” she said. “But at the same time, the ideology behind cutting off healthy body parts of children in the name of an ideology is so pernicious in and of itself that it almost doesn’t need an explanation. And when you sit in the same room as somebody like that, you’re conscious in the way you think about them. Clark said Safer gave a “virtue signaling” explanation for his choice of career, claiming transgender medicine is a beneficial practice for young kids. He also told her he wants conservative activists to “shut up” so he can continue performing these procedures on children, Clark told Coglianese.
