Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie on the hit cowboy drama “Yellowstone,” hinted Wednesday at the fate of the show’s core cast.

Rumors started swirling that lead actor Kevin Costner would be backing out of season six of Taylor Sheridan’s hit-show “Yellowstone,” amid arguments over his filming schedule. It’s unclear whether these stemmed from another rumor that Costner’s wife was demanding he leave the show, saying that it was never meant to be as successful as it is.

If Costner does want out, what does that mean for his character, John Dutton? Well, he’d have to be killed off, apparently. “I thought about this in Season 1,” Bentley told TV Line. “Because it’s always a possibility in TV, right? We’re always ready to die… [And John] really has got this hypnotic pull on Jamie.” Jamie is Dutton‘s adopted son and archetypal black hat throughout the show’s epic run.

Recent reports suggest that Sheridan is done with the current iteration of “Yellowstone,” and is looking to branch off into yet another prequel or spin-off. He has countless in the works already, having wrapped prequel “1883” in 2022. Since then, the Sheridan universe has spawned “Bass Reeves,” “6666,” “1923,” and the newly-confirmed “1944.” I’m probably forgetting other shows linked to the iconic original. That’s how successful Sheridan’s brainchild has become. (RELATED: Kevin Costner Earns Over $1 Million Per ‘Yellowstone’ Episode)

So where does that leave “Yellowstone” right now? Well, we’re either going to get another half of season five and be done, or we’re going to have at least a sixth season. But only time will tell how this thing will play out. Who knew the “Yellowstone” drama could get any crazier off screen!
