Fort Lauderdale Police are searching for four people who reportedly stole $30,000 in jewelry from a Macy’s department store at the Galleria Mall Feb. 18.

The distraction theft occurred at roughly 5 p.m. and involved three males and one female, according to ABC’s Local 10 News. The bold theft was caught on video, and the faces of the four culprits were clearly visible and easily identifiable in the footage. Police believe someone will recognize the culprits and hope they will contact them with information to assist the investigation, according to ABC. “This is a pretty big deal, we don’t usually have $30,000 of merchandise taken in a very planned operation,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Public Information Officer Casey Liening.

The video shows the moment two men approached the jewelry counter and acted as a distraction so that the other male and female could begin stealing the jewelry unnoticed. The two man engaged in a conversation with the department store employee at one side of the counter while the male and female suspects helped themselves to the merchandise.

“We released the video this morning to you guys showing four pretty brave suspects walking into the Macy’s at the Galleria Mall, opening one of the jewelry counters and taking $30,000 worth of merchandise,” Liening told ABC.

“The photos and video are pretty clear so we think someone would come forward with that information,” Liening told ABC.
