A man was transported to a local hospital after he was hit by an 18-wheeler on I-95 in Miami Tuesday morning, according to WPLG Local 10 News.

First responders confirmed the collision, which occurred on the southbound lanes close to the Northwest 79th street ramp, WPLG reported.

The victim was subsequently transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to WPLG. Miami Fire Rescue officials noted that his condition at the time of transfer was “extremely critical.”

There were reportedly no broken down cars or other vehicles in the immediate vicinity at the time of the collision, according to WPLG. Authorities believe that the man possibly entered the I-95 on foot from an on-ramp close to the scene of the collision.

The Florida Highway Patrol currently has troopers investigating the collision along with the circumstances that led to it, WPLG reported. (RELATED: Police Arrest Driver After Semi-Truck Carrying 40,000 Pounds Of Mail Overturns On Highway)
