A woman from India died of injuries she sustained after being attacked by a pack of wild monkeys in a restroom, local reports claimed Monday.

The 70-year-old woman allegedly went to her village’s washroom where the monkeys descended upon her, Times of India reported. She attempted to escape from the beasts, but slipped and hit her head on the floor, causing more injuries, according to the outlet.

The woman reportedly lived in the village with her daughter, who was away for a wedding at the time of the attack. The woman was rushed to a local area hospital to receive treatment for the attack and fall, but she died of her extensive injuries, the outlet continued.

“We have come to know through locals that when the monkeys attacked her, she tried to escape. In  the process, she slipped and fell down. She suffered head injury and died,” a local law enforcement officer told the outlet. Law enforcement also tried to claim that the monkeys did not bite the woman, despite others saying otherwise. The woman was cremated shortly after her death. It’s unclear why the monkeys chose to attack the woman, nor what specific species of monkey carried out the attack, Newsweek reported.

The outlet cited a report that suggested that animal attacks on humans would increase as a result of … climate change (stop laughing). There’s certainly been an uptick in alligator attacks in South Carolina and Florida in recent years, but there has also been an uptick in humans in these areas in recent years too.
