Actress Jenna Ortega is vying for a role in Tim Burton’s sequel to cult classic movie “Beetlejuice,” Variety reported Thursday.

Ortega could apparently play the daughter of Lydia Deetz, who was played by Winona Ryder in the original “Beetlejuice” movie released in 1988, Variety reported. Ortega is currently starring as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday, which Burton executive produces.

The most important part of this story? Apparently Michael Keaton is going to reprise his role as Beetlejuice! Did you just get chills? I sure did!

“There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever,” Burton said in 2014, Variety noted. For those who haven’t seen the original film, it’s possibly one of the weirdest things you’ll ever witness. The story focuses on a family who move into a home previously owned by another family who died in a car accident. Their ghosts want to live in their old home, so they recruit Beetlejuice, a “bio-exorcist” to scare away the new family.

The project has been in the works for a while, Variety noted. Actor Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, officially joined the project in February 2022. Even Ryder has previously confirmed that the film is moving ahead, suggesting she might also be in it. One can only hope!
