Author Tom Quinn reportedly claims in his new book that Prince William and Kate Middleton engage in very heated fights behind closed doors.

In “Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family,” Quinn says William and Middleton are known to escalate their anger to the point where objects are thrown, OK! Magazine reported Monday.

“Someone at the palace told me about the nicknames they have for each other,” Quinn said. “But it’s not all sweetness. They have terrible rows where they throw things at each other.”

Quinn made it clear that in spite of the perfect, airbrushed image of royalty that the public is mostly privy to, William and Middleton get upset with one another like every other married couple.

The author then spoke out about what life is really like in the palace, according to what he has observed during his time with the royal family.

“Kate might seem to be a very calm person, and William also. But it’s not always true,” Quinn said.

“Because the big stress for William and Kate is that they’re constantly surrounded by (palace staff) – it’s like a Jane Austen novel,” Quinn said to OK! Magazine.

It seems that Middleton is also the peacemaker when all is said and done.

“Kate is very much the calm one, William is the one who’s a bit hotheaded,” Quinn said to OK! Magazine.

“Kate is very level-headed. She’s the one who will pour oil on troubled waters and go, ‘Let’s not stir things up,” he said, according to OK! Magazine. (RELATED: REPORT: Prince Harry Accuses William Of Physically Attacking Him)

Quinn also reported that William and Middleton aren’t interested in projecting a “perfect” image to the world. He said they want to be viewed as the real people and family that they are.
