“Yellowstone” star Cole Hauser gave a bleak update on the future of the hit cowboy drama during an interview released in mid-March.

Hauser plays the iconic Rip Wheeler on the Taylor Sheridan series, right-hand-man to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. With the relationship between Sheridan and Costner souring due to rumored ego and shooting schedule disagreements, it’s unclear what will happen to the future of “Yellowstone,” which is currently on a mid-season break.

The show was meant to return in the summer of 2023. But a promotional trailer for the summer return was recently unlisted from YouTube, which fans quickly picked up on.

“You know, we’ll see what’s next, but right now I’m focused on giving you guys 5B. You’ve been waiting for it a little while!” Hauser told an audience at the Houston Rodeo & Livestock Show, Fox26 reported. “But we’re trying to go back to work in May, so hopefully that’ll happen.”

If “Yellowstone” really does start filming in May, that means we won’t see a new episode until at least the fall of 2023, if not later in the year. (RELATED: Keanu Reeves Says He Is Open To ‘Yellowstone’ Role)

In the meantime, Sheridan is keeping himself and seemingly half of Hollywood busy with a slew of new shows. Some are prequels and spin-offs from “Yellowstone,” including a second season of “1923.” He also has a handful of non-cowboy dramas in development, including one on the CIA, and hopefully the next season of “Tulsa King.
