A former FBI agent dismissed armed security as a means of preventing mass shootings Tuesday following a shooting at a private school in Nashville that left seven people dead.
“It’s a real contrast with what we saw in Uvalde. We spent a lot of time talking about the insufficient or incompetent police response in Uvalde. Here seems to be the exact opposite example, but tragically the same result,” former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe told “CNN This Morning” co-hosts Kaitlan Collins and Don Lemon. “You have — you know, you have six innocent victims who couldn’t even be helped by this very rapid, very professional, well-coordinated response.” (RELATED: ‘Part Of The Danger’: Dem Rep Says GOP Colleagues Are ‘So Attached To Guns,’ There’s ‘No Hope’)

“So I think, to some degree, it puts — it shows the myth behind this idea that if we get more heavily armed and, you know, more police and be in more places quicker, that we are going to stop this,” McCabe continued. “Law enforcement alone cannot solve this problem.”
Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old female shooter who identified as transgender, killed three children and three adults at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, which teaches children from preschool through sixth grade before being engaged and fatally wounded by law enforcement after reportedly entering the school via a side door.
President Joe Biden, Congressional Democrats, media figures and celebrities demanded a ban on so-called “assault weapons” in the wake of the shooting.
McCabe was fired as deputy director of the FBI in 2018 following an inspector general’s report that accused him of lying about leaks to the media, though he received his full pension in 2021 following a legal settlement.
