CNN senior political correspondent Abby Phillip said Tuesday that finding an impartial jury to oversee the arraignment of former President Donald Trump will be immensely difficult in New York City.

Trump traveled from Palm Beach, Florida, to New York City on Monday to appear at his Tuesday arraignment after a Manhattan grand jury indicted him over alleged hush payments made to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. Phillips said an impartial jury will be difficult to find in a liberal city like New York due to everyone’s awareness of the former president.

“This is already going to be an uphill climb here in New York City. This is the year 2023, there is no one on this planet unfamiliar with Donald Trump. It’s gonna be really challenging to find an impartial jury in this jurisdiction, but that’s gonna be the task here and they’re gonna have to find a way to prevent the defendant in this case from making that job even more difficult. Talking to lawyers over the weekend, they were talking about whether there would be a gag in this case, I think that’s definitely something that could be on the table.”

Trump has denied any wrongdoing in the case and has repeatedly accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of conducting a “witch hunt” and persecuting him for political purposes. Judge Juan Merchan is presiding over the arraignment at the courthouse.

Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is participating in a protest against the arraignment outside of the courthouse after Trump called on supporters to protest his arrest in a March 18 Truth Social post. Republican New York Rep. George Santos appeared outside of the courthouse Tuesday morning.
