Sixty-eight-year-old Spanish actress Ana Obregón has welcomed a baby via surrogate and revealed her late son is the biological father.

Obregón’s son, Aless, died of cancer in May 2020, and she said the baby was one of his final wishes. The child, Ana Sandra Lequio Obregón (nicknamed Anita), was born via a U.S.-based surrogate, according to People.

“She is Aless’s daughter and when she grows up, I will tell her that her father was a hero so that she knows who she is and how proud she should be of him,” Obregón told Spanish publication Hola, according to People.

Obregón said she began the process to bring her son’s baby into the world “the day my child went to heaven,” according to People. “What people don’t know is that this was Aless’ last will,” she said. She said Aless told both his parents about his wishes and had taken measures to ensure he had frozen sperm before he began chemotherapy, according to People.

She called the three-year surrogacy process a “long road,” but noted how important this journey was for her.

“But it’s what has kept me alive,” Obregón said. “It’s just that if it weren’t for this, I wouldn’t be here anymore.”

Obregón noted the process took three years due to legal issues. Baby Ana is going to legally be her daughter, but will always be informed of her lineage and told that Obregón is actually her grandmother, the actress said, per the outlet.

Obregón took to social media to celebrate her newest family member.

“My Aless: I swore I would save you from cancer, and I failed you. I promised you I’d bring your daughter into the world and here she is in my arms,” she wrote, according to People.

“When I hug her, it’s an indescribable feeling because it’s as if I were hugging you again,” she said in a note penned for her son and translated from Spanish to English. (RELATED: Rebel Wilson Announces Birth Of Her Child Via Surrogate)

“I swear that I will take care of her with the infinite love that I have to give, and from heaven, you will help me,” she wrote.

Obregón concluded, “You are the love of my life in heaven and your daughter is the love of my life on earth. I love you to death. Mom ❤️.”
