Climate activists claimed responsibility for deflating the tires of dozens of SUVs in a wealthy Boston neighborhood Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.

A group called The Tyre Extinguishers said they were responsible for deflating the tires of 43 SUVs, leaving many in the Beacon Hill area without any convenient form of transportation, Boston.com reported Thursday. The group says it seeks to defend “ourselves against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers” by “deflating tyres repeatedly and encouraging others to do the same.”

The Tyre Extinguishers have also carried out similar actions in Germany, Italy and France, the outlet reported. The group said it targeted Beacon Hill because “it is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Boston to own a house,” according to what appears to be a blog post on the group’s website titled “First Action In Boston, Massachusetts: 43 SUVs Disarmed.”

“I don’t necessarily think that is the most productive or helpful way to send to [sic] message,” one unnamed resident told CBS News Boston. “Disrupting people’s days doesn’t actually get people to think about the problem, which is that we do need to be more mindful.” (RELATED: Eco-Activists Are Terrorizing US Cities By Going Around And Deflating SUV Tires)

Another resident who said a firefighter who lives in the neighborhood “couldn’t get to the station and that’s frustrating. There are plenty of people here who work at the hospital and couldn’t get to work on time,” NBC10 Boston reported.

Police are investigating and there have been no arrests so far, but one neighbor told CBS the situation was “pretty unfair” since “in this neighborhood there are a number of elderly people who park on the street. This is a burden on them.”

A resident who was late for work reportedly called the suspects terrorists, while another said “If you want to make change, make it through the ballot box.”
