Independent journalist Matt Taibbi said Monday on “Fox & Friends” that the media’s silence after a Democrat threatened him with jail time is deafening.

Democratic Virgin Islands Del. Stacey Plaskett threatened Taibbi with a prison sentence after he was accused of purposely conflating the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) with the Center for Internet Security (CIS), which is privately run, in his “Twitter Files” reporting. MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan alleged Taibbi purposely misconstrued the two in a since-deleted Tweet on March 9.

Hasan alleged Taibbi “deliberately & under oath misrepresented” the CISA and CIS. Taibbi had tweeted that CISA worked with the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP) to flag content online, when his reporting showed CIS worked with the EIP.

Plsakett wrote in a letter to Taibbi that under federal law “providing false information is punishable by up to five years imprisonment.”

Taibbi spoke out about it Monday. (RELATED: Matt Taibbi Rips MSNBC Host Over Network Doing ‘Nothing But Vomit Up Fake Russian’ Stories Before Host Ends Segment)

“I know this is a cliché, but can you imagine if something like this had happened in the Trump years? If Republicans had threatened somebody like Jim Acosta with five years in prison over a minor error that he didn’t even make in testimony before Congress?” he said.

“You would have had every human rights organization on Earth complaining about it, but not a peep from my so-called colleagues in mainstream media over this outrageous abuse,” Taibbi continued.

“It doesn’t matter what journalist it is, they should be upset about it because it could be them next.”
