ESPN national baseball reporter Marly Rivera was recently fired after she called a fellow reporter a “f**king c**t” in mid-April.

The comment from Rivera was apparently triggered over a Yankee Captain Aaron Judge interview, the New York Post reported. “She no longer works here,” ESPN told the outlet in a statement.

The incident allegedly occurred prior to the Yankees-Angels game at Yankee Stadium April 18 when the Los Angeles Angels won 5-2. Rivera and her colleague Ivon Gaete disagreed on who would be interviewing Judge and when. Rivera claims she set up the time to speak with Judge, and when she tried to tell Gaete, she ignored her on multiple occasions, the NY Post noted.

During their disagreement, Rivera used the words “f**king c**t,” which was caught on video. After the incident, Rivera tried to apologize but this was apparently ignored by Gaete. “I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have,” Rivera told the NY Post.

“There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions. I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements,” she continued. Gaete is a freelance reporter and is married to Major League Baseball vice president of communication John Blundell, the outlet noted. Rivera claims that she and Blundell have had disagreements over the years, which is why this particular incident resulted in her firing, she claims.
