A big rumor dropped Tuesday that “Yellowstone” star Wes Bentley is after Kevin Costner’s leading position on the hit cowboy drama.

As any significant news on the future of “Yellowstone” seemingly grinds to a halt, gossip has started to erupt from the Taylor Sheridan show. First, we were told Costner’s wife wants him off the set entirely, allegedly. Then Costner put his foot down over shooting schedules, leading to huge beef with Sheridan, supposedly.

Now, Bentley apparently wants Costner out of the series so he can become the top-billed star on the show, according to a report from RadarOnline. “Wes wants his name thrown into the mix,” a source told the outlet. “He’s ready for extra screen time!”

RadarOnline’s source noted that while it’s concerning that filming seems to be on hold, “Wes thinks everything’s going to be fine even if Kevin’s step-back is permanent.” (RELATED: Did ‘Yellowstone’ Drop A Major Spoiler Years Ago That We’ve Ignored Until Now?)

A second source apparently chimed in, noting that Bentley is after an “opportunity he’s been preparing for his whole life — even if he didn’t realize it.” And by “opportunity,” one can only assume he means Costner exiting the show, or even being killed off. Sure, that might be great for Bentley, but he’s easily one of the most unlikable characters on the series.

Bentley might think this is huge, but it could also see him typecast or passed over for future films and shows. He might also consider how tacky it looks if all these sources are telling the truth, which I really, really hope they’re not. If they are, he’s basically living up to the reputation of Jamie Dutton, his character on the show, and it’s pretty gross.
