Chris Pratt said that his religious faith helps him cope with his detractors in a Sunday interview with Page Six.

Pratt told Page Six during a Cinema Society screening of Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 about how the backlash against him has been going on for some time.

“I sure do but that’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know?” Pratt told Page Six.

Pratt has been outspoken about his religious beliefs for years and previously faced accusations of homophobia for allegedly attending the controversial Hillsong Church. (RELATED: Anna Faris Says Chris Pratt Told Her Before Proposing To Katherine Schwarzenegger)

He told the outlet that his faith in Jesus Christ helps him ignore negativity and mentioned the Bible verses that help him deal with backlash.

“If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20,” Pratt said.

The Marvel actor talked about how hatred of public figures is nothing new, claiming that Jesus Christ faced hate thousands of years ago.

“That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too,” Pratt added.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor said the backlash against him originates from an acceptance speech he gave after receiving the Generation Award at the 2018 MTV Movie Awards. In his speech, Pratt told the audience, “God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you.”

James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, defended Pratt and said the commentary surrounding the actor is fabricated.

“It absolutely infuriates me,” Gunn said to Variety in June 2022. “Chris is unspeakably kind to people; he goes out of his way to help kids. He’s an especially loving father. And there’s a lot of stuff that people have literally just made up about him — about his politics, about who he is, about what he believes of other people, you know?”
