A 12-year-old boy is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a Texas fast food employee after an altercation Saturday, police say.

The unnamed juvenile accompanied 20-year-old Angel Gomez to a Sonic Drive-In on May 13 in the north central town of Keene, according to CBS News. Gomez began urinating in the back parking lot of the restaurant when he was confronted by Sonic employee Matthew Davis, Fox 4 reported, citing Keene police. The interaction reportedly became physical, which is when Gomez’s 12-year-old companion allegedly pulled out an AR-15 and fired at least six rounds at Davis.

When police arrived on the scene at approximately 9:40 p.m., they discovered a wounded Davis lying in the parking lot, the Keene Police Department said in a Facebook press release .CBS reported. Though first responders took life-saving measures and flew Davis to a nearby hospital for treatment, the 32-year-old succumbed to his injuries. Though Gomez and the unnamed 12-year-old allegedly fled the scene, Gomez later returned to the establishment and was promptly detained, according to police. Further investigation led officers to Rio Vista, a town 15 miles away, where they apprehended the 12-year-old boy and recovered several firearms.

Gomez and the 12-year-old suspect have been charged with murder, according to the Keene Police Department.
