Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott suffered some technical difficulties during his presidential announcement on Monday when his microphone blew out mid-speech.

Scott announced he was joining the growing Republican field while in Charleston, criticizing President Joe Biden for the economy, national security and education.

“They’re attacking our American values, our schools, our economy, our security, but not on my watch!” Scott said. “Our nation, our people, our values are strong, but our president is weak. America is not a nation-” Scott continued before suddenly his mic blew out.

Scott apparently was unaware of the issue at first, continuing on talking before tapping his microphone to try and detect audio. Some crowd members could be seen laughing as Scott looked around for assistance. Scott then tried another microphone that also didn’t work at first.

The crowd then burst out into a chant of “Tim Scott” as the senator addressed them. (RELATED: Donald Trump Reacts To Tim Scott Joining Presidential Race)

Audio issues were finally fixed, allowing Scott to continue on his speech.

“Under Joe Biden our nation is not a nation in decline, but under Joe Biden, we have become a nation in retreat. Retreating from our heritage and our history, retreating from personal responsibility and hard work, retreating from strength and security, even retreating from religious liberty and the worship of God himself. They say opportunity in America is a myth and faith in America is a fraud, but the truth of my life disproves their lies.”

The 2024 Republican field includes former President Donald Trump, who remains ahead in the polls, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence are expected to enter the race soon.
