The California legislature’s LGBTQ caucus is set to honor a member of the drag queen group the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” during a daylong celebration at the state capitol.

The drag queen group has drawn criticism for sexualizing Jesus and Catholic nuns. Participants in the drag group have dressed up as “pink Jesus” while mimicking a crucifixion during a parade. In another skit, a scantily clad man danced sexually on a cross while another pretended to be nailed to the cross.

The Los Angeles Dodgers planned to honor the group during a Pride night game but disinvited them after backlash from Senator Marco Rubio, the advocacy group Catholic Vote and others. The Dodgers then re-invited the group and issued an apology, vowing to “educate” themselves. (RELATED: ‘Mocking Women’: Glamour Magazine Blasted For ‘Pregnant Male’ Cover Model)

The LGBTQ caucus is planning to honor a member of the group with the stage name “Sister Roma.”

“For more than three decades, Sister Roma has been one of the most outspoken and globally recognized members of San Francisco’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” the Caucus’s website reads. “From fighting on the front lines in the war against HIV/AIDS to creating the Sisters’ Stop The Violence campaign, to taking on social media giant Facebook as the creator of the #MyNamels movement Roma has dedicated more than half her life to community service, activism and fundraising.”

“As an event producer and tireless volunteer, Roma has helped raise well over $1 million dollars for countless charities and LGBTQ organizations. She’s just as comfortable walking red carpets and hosting big ticket galas as she is marching for human rights and serving holiday meals to our unhoused community.”

The Caucus criticized the Dodgers for originally withdrawing the group from their list of honorees during a Pride game night celebration, writing, “It is truly disappointing the Los Angeles Dodgers have caved to pressure from mostly out-of-state conservative organizations.”

The California LGBTQ Caucus did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
