A Utah man turned himself into authorities Wednesday after allegedly killing two people in an alleged road rage-related incident, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

Peterson Drew Matthew reportedly crashed his Ford F-150 truck into a Porsche, killing driver Rodney Michael Salm, 48 and his passenger Michaela Himmelberger, 46, the sheriff’s office tweeted Wednesday.

Salm and Himmelberger were driving as part of a Porsche club when, allegedly fueled by road rage, Matheson crossed the center line on Highway SR-73 and rammed them head-on, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Matheson was booked on two second-degree felony manslaughter counts and one count of class B reckless driving, according to police. Matheson turned himself in after law enforcement reached out to his family and advised them he would be taken into custody, KSL.com reported.

The incident was reportedly spurred by an interaction between Matheson and the driver of a Nissan Maxima, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon told KSL. Matheson initially engaged with the Nissan multiple times on the highway, attempting to pass the Maxima on the right. Eventually, Matheson crossed into the eastbound emergency lane and rammed the driver from the side, according to Cannon and witness reports obtained by CBS2.

“At this point, it appears the driver of the F-150 lost control, crossed the center line, and crashed head-on into a 1987 Porsche 911 that was driving west,” Cannon claimed.

Salm and Himmelberger were killed immediately upon impact, while Matheson was transferred to Intermountain Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork, CBS noted.
