Charles Cyphers, Star From ‘Halloween’ Franchise, Dead At 85

Charles Cyphers, known for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the “Halloween” franchise, died Sunday after a brief illness. He was 85.

Cyphers has several acting credits under his name, on both the big screen and the small screen, after spending decades entertaining his fans. His manager Chris Roe announced the star’s death Tuesday.

“Charles was a lovable and sensitive man,” Roe said in a statement shared with Variety.  “He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”

Cyphers role in John Carpenter’s 1978 epic horror film “Halloween” marked the launch of his fame. The famous actor starred alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the movie, which also marked Curtis’ film debut.

Cyphers returned to the franchise when he reprised his role in the 1981 sequel “Halloween II” and again for “Halloween Kills.”

His other film credits include the 1976 action film “Assault on Precinct 13,” in which he played a police officer named Starker, according to Variety.

He went on to star in the 1980 horror flick “The Fog” and “Escape From New York” in 1981.

“My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed,” said Nancy Kyes, who co-stared with Cyphers in “Halloween,” “The Fog” and “Assault on Precinct 13,” according to Variety.

Cyphers’ television credits include “Barnaby Jones,” “The Six Million Dollar Man,” “The Bionic Woman” and “Charlies Angles.” He also appeared in “Roots,” “Wonder Woman,” “The Betty White Show,” “ER,” and “Starsky and Hutch.” Cypher also played Al Yaroker on the sitcom “Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher,”  and starred in “Major League” in 1989.
