A handful of new names are joining the “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” for its second season, according to report published Aug. 7.
“1923” was supposed to be a one-and-done limited series following the harrowing “1883,” the original “Yellowstone” prequel. Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as the Dutton patriarch and matriarch, the series was a smash hit. So much so that creator Taylor Sheridan, Paramount+ and his team over at 101 Studios decided to leave fans of a huge cliff-hanger at the end of season one.
Joining Ford, Mirren, and the rest of the original cast are a few new faces. Augustus Prew is reportedly joining the second season as Paul, “a dapper, bookish, well-to-do young British man on a passenger ship,” reports Deadline. I’m guessing this man will probably attempt to steal Alexandra’s (Julia Schlaepfer) heart as she makes her way back to Montana and Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar). As with all Sheridan series, we should prepare ourselves for heartbreak on this one.
Next up is Jennifer Carpenter, who many of us know from “Dexter,” according to Deadline. Carpenter is playing Mamie Fossett, a deputy marshall. We’ll also be welcoming Janet Montgomery as Hillary, “a thoughtful young woman who does not want to see injustice go unpunished.” (RELATED: ‘1923’ Is Even Better Than ‘Yellowstone’ (SPOILERS))
With “Yellowstone” drawing to a close after the forthcoming fifth and final season, bringing back “1923” is a great way to remind fans that the Dutton story is not defined by the flagship show. Though rumors suggest this will be the second and final season of “1923,” we also have shows like the upcoming “Yellowstone” sequel titled either “The Madison” or “2024.”
I’m most excited to see how Aminah Nieves’ character, Teonna Rainwater, journeys through this harrowing chapter in American history. Where does her story overlap with the Dutton-Yellowstone Ranch? Or does it at all? It stands to reason that her escape from the Catholic boarding school is what will one day allow Thomas Rainwater’s birth and eventual ascending to chief. But we know Rainwater was adopted. He was raised Mexican until he was 18 years old and never knew his biological mother. Could Teonna be his mother? Unlikely, given his age. But she could have had him later in life. Or maybe she’s his grandmother, auntie or all of the above.
