Chicago firefighters on Thursday discovered the body of a 57-year-old woman entangled in luggage machinery at O’Hare International Airport, The Associated Press (AP) reported.

Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department, said the department was called to the airport in the morning over a report that a person was stuck in machinery used to move luggage, The AP reported. The firefighters found the lifeless woman entangled in a conveyor belt system in a non-public baggage-process area, according to the outlet. Langford said it was not clear how the woman became entangled in the machinery, however surveillance footage shows the woman entering the baggage room at 2:27 a.m., The AP reported. A Chicago Police Department spokesman told the outlet that no one was watching the surveillance cameras at the time of the incident, and that the footage was discovered after the woman’s death.

An unauthorized presence in the area itself would not have triggered a security breach, given that the area was not high security, CBS News noted.

The woman was not an O’Hare employee, The AP reported, also noting that an Occupational Health and Safety Administration official had visited the airport in person and viewed the scene.

Police have since opened an investigation into the incident.
