Matt Lauer’s daughter Romy allegedly crashed her car and fled the scene of the accident — but she left her license plate behind, sources reportedly said.
Romy crashed her Jeep Wrangler in the Hamptons over the July Fourth weekend, but failed to remain at the scene, according to Page Six. Initial reports indicated she collided into a fence and a sign during the accident, and her license plate fell off during the incident, sources told the outlet. Southampton Town police were reportedly able to identify Romy through her plate. Authorities proceeded to dispatch a summons for allegedly fleeing the site of an accident, police told Page Six.
A source told Page Six that a worried neighbor alerted police after hearing a loud noise at 4 a.m. July 5. A 911 call was reportedly placed and police were dispatched to the scene at North Sea Mecox Road.
Police noticed damage to the sign and fence upon their arrival and were able to locate the license plate, but there was no sign of a driver or vehicle at the scene of the fender bender, sources said to the outlet.
A source close to the situation reportedly said police issued a ticket and prominent legal counsel Edward Burke Jr. has already been retained to defend the daughter of the former “Today” host.
The insider said Burke Jr. is “currently involved in the case and resolving this for Ms. Lauer” with the court, according to Page Six.
Burke has famously represented Justin Timberlake, Matt Lauer and Lizzie Grubman in the past, along with a long list of other VIP clients.
Lauer’s daughter shared a post to TikTok on the night of July Fourth, showing her outing with two friends at a sushi spot in Kissaki, in Water Mill. The location is close in proximity to the scene of the accident, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Police Arrest Reality TV Star Christi Lukasiak For DUI After Car Crash: REPORT)
