“It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways,” Macpherson told Australian Women’s Weekly.

The supermodel said doctors discovered she had cancer after she underwent a lumpectomy. Doctors told her it was an HER2 positive estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma, which is a specific type of breast cancer. She was advised to undergo cancer treatment, including a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

She noted the diagnosis “gave me an opportunity … to find a solution that worked for me” and she firmly decided to treat the cancer without the use of chemotherapy or pharmaceuticals.

“I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it. And that’s what I did,” she told Australian Women’s Weekly.

“So, it was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”

Macpherson recognized that her treatment decision was unconventional to many, but said she innately knew this was the best path for herself to take.
