A Worcester, Massachusetts, man said he rushed into a burning multi-family house fire three times to make sure 13 people were out safe Monday, WHDH reported.

Jose Ramirez told WHDH that his unit’s smoke detectors were set off at the moment he was sitting down to eat brunch with his family.

At the time of the blaze the house was full of Ramirez’s family members and neighbors, including a 5-year-old playing video games in his bedroom, according to WHDH. (RELATED: ‘I’ll Be Right Back’: Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Family From House Fire)

While flames created streams of smoke pouring out of the home and firefighters rushed to the scene, Ramirez ran into the house three times to get all family members and neighbors out, WHDH reported.

“I got my grandkids, my girlfriend’s kids. I got everybody out,” Ramirez told WHDH.

Worcester Assistant Fire Chief Adam Roche told WHDH, “We had reports of people trapped in the building and heavy fire and smoke from the rear porches of the second and third floors.”

Ramirez said all that matters to him is that his family got out safe, WHDH reported.

“It’s humanity, you know what I mean? You gotta’ make sure everyone is out,” Ramirez told WHDH.

Neighbors told WHDH that the smoke worried them, but they were relieved now that everybody was safe.

“When life is gone, you can’t get that back. It’s okay. Everyone is okay so I’m okay,” Manuella Perez said.

Another neighbor told WHDH that he also ran into the blaze, making sure the 5-year-old was safe and securing the boy’s Xbox and television.

The Worcester Fire Department said the blaze, which is under investigation, sent one person to the hospital and left nine displaced, WHDH reported.
